They were outstanding. Super responsive without talking to some robot to schedule. They shot right over to the house right away when our AC wasn't working. You want to use them for super quick and great service!
Great company to work with! I felt like they were fair and honest. They were great at communicating with me and getting out to our place fast and working around our schedule! Will be using them again in the future!
I HIGHLY recommend going with Vortex Air HVAC. My original heater in my house (1989) was having issues. I watched a ton of videos and did everything to get it back and working with one caveat. Vortex came and took a look and realized it was a simple quick fix. He didn't charge me anything for it after I insisted I paid him. He then proceeded to to a quick diagnostic to verify everything was working correctly for free. Fantastic customer service. That simple act has won me over as a lifetime customer.
We contacted Vortex Air HVAC when we were installing a vent fan above our stove. The Vortex team came out, climbed up in our attic to cut a hole in our roof to install the ducting for it. Not only did they weather seal around their work, they cleaned the entire mess and was very friendly and professional. Now every year we have them come out and prep our furnace and A/C for the seasons. Thank you Vortex Air for excellent, professional and friendly service everytime. 😁
Quick response time, very knowledgeable, and great pricing. I definitely will be calling vortex next time!
I’ve waited a few weeks to post this review pending my full experience with Vortex air. Recently we had our ac go out, I had multiple big name and a few smaller companies out they all played the same game! Send a “tech” they tell me it’s bad few hours to a day later another “sales” man shows up to quote it.. I called these guys as I had just a coworker refer them. The Owner answered the phone and then showed up to my house within an hour! He then proceeded to give me all the options to even repair! He made thoughtful and valid suggestions on what we can really do to improve air quality as well. Day of install shows up and they were on time and had it all changed and running same day! Pricing was very competitive and not like getting the wind knocked out of you like all the other prices I got. 5 stars for service another 5 for the install and another 5 for the peace of mind we will have coming these next seasons. Thank you vortex!

Exhaust Fan Installation Service
Our professional exhaust fan installation service covers all aspects of home ventilation, from bathrooms to kitchens. We understand that effective ventilation is about more than just moving air; it is about protecting your home from damage and improving your quality of life. Our service begins with a consultation to determine the best type of exhaust fan for your specific needs. We help you select a fan with the right power, noise level, and features for your space. Our technicians are experts in installing all types of residential exhaust fans. We are committed to providing a solution that is both effective and seamlessly integrated into your home.
We specialize in bathroom exhaust fan installation. A bathroom without proper ventilation is a prime breeding ground for mold and mildew, which can damage your walls and ceilings and pose a health risk. We help you choose a fan with the correct CFM (cubic feet per minute) rating based on the size of your bathroom to ensure it can effectively remove moisture. Our installation process includes running new, insulated ductwork that is properly vented to the exterior of your home, never into the attic. We also handle all the necessary electrical wiring safely and to code. A new, quiet, and powerful bathroom fan can transform the comfort and health of your bathroom.
A high-quality kitchen range hood is essential for any home cook. An effective range hood does more than just remove smoke from the occasional kitchen mishap. It captures airborne grease particles, preventing them from settling on your cabinets and surfaces. It also vents cooking odors and excess heat to the outdoors, keeping your kitchen and the rest of your home smelling fresh and feeling comfortable. We install a wide range of kitchen exhaust fans, including under-cabinet hoods, wall-mounted chimney hoods, and island hoods. We ensure the fan is powerful enough for your cooktop and that the ductwork is installed for maximum efficiency.
Our technicians are meticulous about the installation details. For any exhaust fan, proper venting is the key to performance. We take great care to run the ductwork as straight as possible, minimizing bends that can restrict airflow. We use rigid, smooth-walled ducting whenever possible for the best performance. All duct connections are securely fastened and sealed to prevent any leaks. We install a high-quality wall or roof cap with a damper to prevent backdrafts and keep pests out. We ensure the fan housing is securely mounted to prevent vibration and noise. Our attention to these details ensures your new fan works perfectly.
The electrical work is another critical part of the installation. Our technicians are skilled in safely running new wiring for your exhaust fan. We can install a new switch or connect the fan to an existing light switch, depending on your preference. We also install advanced controls, such as timers or humidity sensors for bathroom fans. A humidity sensor, or humidistat, will automatically turn the fan on when it detects high moisture levels and turn it off when the bathroom is dry. This provides effortless, energy-efficient ventilation. We ensure all our electrical work is safe, reliable, and compliant with all local codes.
We can install exhaust fans in new locations or replace old, noisy, or ineffective units. If you have an old fan that sounds like a jet engine or does not seem to move any air, upgrading to a modern, energy-efficient model can make a huge difference. New fans are significantly quieter and more powerful than older models. Replacing an existing fan often involves removing the old unit, resizing the ceiling opening if necessary, and connecting the new fan to the existing ductwork and wiring. We will inspect the existing ductwork and recommend repairs or replacement if it is inadequate.

Common Exhaust Fan Installation Questions
We understand you have questions about exhaust fan installation. Our goal is to provide clear and helpful answers about this important home improvement. Below, you will find detailed information on common inquiries.
A bathroom exhaust fan is an essential appliance for protecting both your home and your health. The primary function of a bathroom fan is to remove excess moisture and humidity that is generated by showers and baths. If this warm, moist air is not vented out, it will lead to condensation on your walls, ceiling, and mirror. This constant moisture creates the perfect environment for mold and mildew to grow. Mold can damage paint, drywall, and wood trim, leading to costly repairs. More importantly, mold spores can cause allergic reactions and respiratory problems, especially for sensitive individuals.
Beyond moisture control, a bathroom fan also helps to remove unpleasant odors, keeping your bathroom smelling fresh. It can also vent steam and water vapor, which can improve visibility and prevent the long-term peeling of paint or wallpaper. In essence, a bathroom fan protects the structural integrity of your bathroom finishes and contributes to a healthier indoor environment. Building codes in most areas now require mechanical ventilation in all new bathrooms for these reasons. A powerful, properly vented exhaust fan is not a luxury; it is a necessity for a modern, healthy home.
If your current bathroom does not have an exhaust fan, or if your existing fan is old, noisy, and ineffective, you are putting your home at risk. Signs that you need a new or better fan include visible mold or mildew growth, paint that is peeling or bubbling, and condensation that lingers on surfaces long after a shower. A professional installation from Vortex Air HVAC will ensure your bathroom is properly protected from the damaging effects of excess humidity. We can install a new fan that is quiet, powerful, and effective.
CFM stands for Cubic Feet per Minute, and it is the standard measurement of how much air a fan can move. Choosing an exhaust fan with the correct CFM rating is the most important factor in ensuring it will effectively ventilate your bathroom. A fan that is too weak (too low CFM) will not be able to clear the moisture from the room quickly enough, allowing condensation and mold to form. A fan that is overly powerful is not necessary and may be less energy efficient. The goal is to get a fan that is sized just right for your space.
The Home Ventilating Institute (HVI) provides a simple guideline for sizing a bathroom fan. For most bathrooms, the recommendation is to have at least 1 CFM for every square foot of floor area. For example, if your bathroom is 8 feet by 10 feet, it has an area of 80 square feet, so you should look for a fan with a rating of at least 80 CFM. For bathrooms larger than 100 square feet, the HVI recommends a different calculation based on the number of fixtures (toilet, shower, tub) in the room. Our experts can easily calculate the precise CFM your bathroom requires.
It is always better to slightly oversize the fan than to undersize it. If your calculation calls for 80 CFM, choosing a 90 or 110 CFM fan is a good idea, as it will clear the room more quickly. Other factors, like the length and number of bends in the duct run, can also impact performance, so having a little extra power is beneficial. Our technicians at Vortex Air HVAC will help you select the perfect fan with the right CFM rating to keep your bathroom dry, fresh, and healthy. We take the guesswork out of the selection process.
Absolutely not. It is against building codes and a very bad practice to have an exhaust fan vent directly into the attic. The entire purpose of a bathroom or kitchen exhaust fan is to move moisture and pollutants from inside your home to the outside. Venting warm, moist air into your attic can lead to serious problems. This moisture can cause condensation on the underside of your roof sheathing and on the wood trusses. Over time, this can lead to wood rot, delamination of the plywood, and serious structural damage.
Furthermore, pumping all that humidity into your attic creates the ideal breeding ground for mold and mildew. Mold can grow on the wood surfaces and on your attic insulation, reducing its effectiveness and creating a major air quality issue. In the winter, the warm air can also contribute to the formation of ice dams on your roof. All exhaust fans, without exception, should be ducted through the attic space and terminated at a proper vent cap on the roof or through a gable wall. This ensures the moisture is fully removed from the building envelope.
When Vortex Air HVAC installs an exhaust fan, we always ensure it is properly vented to the outdoors. We use insulated ducting in the attic to prevent condensation from forming inside the duct itself. We use smooth, rigid ducting when possible to maximize airflow. If your current exhaust fan vents into your attic, it is a significant defect that should be corrected as soon as possible to protect your home. We can easily reroute your existing ductwork or install a new system correctly.
The difference between a ducted and a ductless range hood is fundamental to how they work. A ducted range hood is the most effective type of kitchen ventilation. It is designed to capture smoke, grease, steam, and odors at the source and physically transport them out of your home through a network of ducts. The ductwork runs from the hood, through the wall or ceiling, and terminates at a vent on the exterior of your home. This process completely removes the pollutants from your indoor environment. For anyone who does a significant amount of cooking, a ducted range hood is the superior choice.
A ductless range hood, also known as a recirculating hood, does not vent to the outdoors. Instead, it pulls the air from above your cooktop and passes it through a series of filters. It typically has a mesh filter to trap grease particles and a charcoal filter to help absorb odors and smoke. After passing through the filters, the “cleaned” air is then recirculated back into your kitchen. Ductless hoods are easier and cheaper to install because they do not require ductwork, making them a popular option for apartments or homes where running ducts is not feasible.
However, the performance of a ductless hood is significantly inferior to a ducted one. While they can trap some grease and reduce some odors, they cannot remove heat or humidity from the kitchen. The charcoal filters also need to be replaced regularly to remain effective, which is an ongoing cost. They are generally less powerful than ducted hoods and are not as effective at capturing all the smoke and steam from heavy cooking. Whenever possible, Vortex Air HVAC recommends installing a ducted range hood for the best possible kitchen air quality.
A whole-house exhaust fan is a powerful fan, typically mounted in the ceiling of a central hallway on the top floor of a home. Its purpose is to provide powerful, whole-home ventilation by pulling large volumes of air out of the house and exhausting it into the attic space, which then vents to the outdoors through attic vents. To use a whole-house fan, you open a few windows in your home, and the fan creates a strong breeze as it pulls the cooler outside air in through the windows and pushes the hot, stale indoor air out.
Whole-house fans are a very energy-efficient way to cool your home, particularly in a climate like Orem’s, where summer days can be hot but evenings and nights are often cool and dry. They use significantly less electricity than a central air conditioner. On a warm day, you can run the fan in the evening and overnight to flush out all the hot air that has built up in your house and pull in the cool night air. This can often cool the home enough to avoid running the AC at all, or at least to delay turning it on until later the next day.
It is important to understand that a whole-house fan is a ventilation tool, not an air conditioner. It cannot cool the air, it can only replace the indoor air with outdoor air. Therefore, it is only effective when the outside temperature is cooler than the inside temperature. It is also crucial that your attic has adequate ventilation to allow the large volume of air to escape. Vortex Air HVAC can assess your home’s layout and attic ventilation to determine if a whole-house fan is a good option for you and provide a professional, safe installation.
Choosing the right size kitchen range hood is crucial for it to be effective. The first consideration is the physical width. The range hood should be at least as wide as the cooktop it is installed over. For example, if you have a 30-inch wide range, you need a range hood that is at least 30 inches wide. For high-powered, professional-style ranges, it is often recommended to choose a hood that is 3 to 6 inches wider on each side than the cooktop. This provides a larger capture area to ensure all the smoke and steam is drawn into the fan.
The second consideration is the power of the fan, which is measured in CFM. The required CFM for a kitchen hood depends on the type of cooktop you have. For a standard electric range, a general rule of thumb is to have 100 CFM for every linear foot of cooktop width. So, for a 30-inch (2.5 feet) cooktop, you would need about 250 CFM. However, for gas cooktops, which produce more heat and combustion byproducts, the calculation is different. It is often recommended to have 1 CFM for every 100 BTUs of your cooktop’s total output.
The length and complexity of the duct run also impact the required power. A long duct run with several bends will require a more powerful fan to maintain good airflow. Our experts at Vortex Air HVAC can help you navigate these calculations. We will consider your specific cooking appliances and your kitchen’s layout to recommend a range hood with the perfect size and power to keep your kitchen air clean and fresh. We ensure your new hood is a perfect match for your cooking style.
Fan noise is a major consideration for many homeowners when choosing a bathroom exhaust fan. No one wants a fan that is so loud it disrupts the peace and quiet of their home. Fan noise is measured in a unit called “sones.” A lower sone rating means a quieter fan. For reference, a quiet refrigerator typically operates at around 1.0 sone. An average fan from a few decades ago might have a rating of 4.0 sones or higher, which is quite loud. Modern technology has allowed for the development of extremely quiet fans.
For a bathroom fan to be considered quiet, you should look for a model with a sone rating of 1.0 or less. Many high-quality modern fans are available with ratings as low as 0.3 sones, which are virtually silent. You will barely be able to hear that the fan is running. These quiet models are often a bit more expensive than their louder counterparts, but most homeowners find the extra cost is well worth it for the added peace and quiet. A quiet fan is also more likely to be used regularly, which means it will be more effective at controlling moisture.
The installation itself can also affect the noise level. A fan that is not securely mounted to the ceiling joists can vibrate and create extra noise. Using insulated ductwork can also help to dampen any sound from the air moving through the ducts. When you work with Vortex Air HVAC, we can help you select a fan with a low sone rating and will ensure it is installed meticulously to provide the quietest possible operation. We can help you find the perfect balance of power and quietness for your bathroom.
Yes, replacing an old, outdated exhaust fan is one of the most common services we provide. If your current fan is excessively noisy, does not seem to move much air, or has stopped working altogether, a replacement can make a world of difference. Modern exhaust fans are significantly more powerful, quieter, and more energy-efficient than models from even 10 or 15 years ago. Upgrading is a simple way to improve your home’s ventilation and comfort. Our technicians can handle the entire replacement process for you.
The replacement process begins with us safely disconnecting the power and removing the old fan unit from the ceiling. We will then inspect the existing ductwork and electrical wiring. In many cases, old fans were improperly vented into the attic or used inadequate, undersized ducting. If we find any issues with the existing setup, we will recommend the necessary corrections to ensure your new fan performs as it should. This might involve running a new, properly sized and insulated duct to the exterior of your home.
Once the site is prepared, we install the new fan. This may require slightly enlarging the opening in the ceiling to accommodate a modern unit. We will securely mount the new fan housing, connect it to the corrected ductwork and wiring, and install the new grille for a clean, professional finish. We will then test the new fan to ensure it is operating powerfully and quietly. A replacement installation is a straightforward project for our skilled technicians and can typically be completed in just a few hours.
