What Homeowners Are Saying
See why customers trust Vortex Air HVAC for professional Commercial HVAC. Our team is known for honest pricing, quality work, and reliable service from start to finish.
They were outstanding. Super responsive without talking to some robot to schedule. They shot right over to the house right away when our AC wasn't working. You want to use them for super quick and great service!
Great company to work with! I felt like they were fair and honest. They were great at communicating with me and getting out to our place fast and working around our schedule! Will be using them again in the future!
I HIGHLY recommend going with Vortex Air HVAC. My original heater in my house (1989) was having issues. I watched a ton of videos and did everything to get it back and working with one caveat. Vortex came and took a look and realized it was a simple quick fix. He didn't charge me anything for it after I insisted I paid him. He then proceeded to to a quick diagnostic to verify everything was working correctly for free. Fantastic customer service. That simple act has won me over as a lifetime customer.
We contacted Vortex Air HVAC when we were installing a vent fan above our stove. The Vortex team came out, climbed up in our attic to cut a hole in our roof to install the ducting for it. Not only did they weather seal around their work, they cleaned the entire mess and was very friendly and professional. Now every year we have them come out and prep our furnace and A/C for the seasons. Thank you Vortex Air for excellent, professional and friendly service everytime. 😁
Quick response time, very knowledgeable, and great pricing. I definitely will be calling vortex next time!
I’ve waited a few weeks to post this review pending my full experience with Vortex air. Recently we had our ac go out, I had multiple big name and a few smaller companies out they all played the same game! Send a “tech” they tell me it’s bad few hours to a day later another “sales” man shows up to quote it.. I called these guys as I had just a coworker refer them. The Owner answered the phone and then showed up to my house within an hour! He then proceeded to give me all the options to even repair! He made thoughtful and valid suggestions on what we can really do to improve air quality as well. Day of install shows up and they were on time and had it all changed and running same day! Pricing was very competitive and not like getting the wind knocked out of you like all the other prices I got. 5 stars for service another 5 for the install and another 5 for the peace of mind we will have coming these next seasons. Thank you vortex!

Common Commercial HVAC Questions
We understand you have questions about commercial HVAC systems. Our goal is to provide clear answers to help you manage your facility effectively. Below, you will find detailed information on common inquiries from business owners.
The primary differences between commercial and residential HVAC systems lie in their size, location, complexity, and drainage systems. Commercial units are significantly larger and have a much higher cooling and heating capacity (measured in tons) to handle larger spaces with more occupants and heat-generating equipment. While residential systems are typically split, with an indoor and an outdoor unit, most commercial systems are packaged units. This means all components, including the compressor, condenser, and evaporator, are housed in a single cabinet, usually located on the building’s roof for easy access and to save space.
The complexity of commercial systems is also much greater. They often need to serve multiple zones with varying temperature requirements, which involves complex ductwork, dampers, and sophisticated control systems. Residential systems are usually designed for a single, uniform zone. Furthermore, the drainage systems are different. Commercial units on a roof require a more elaborate network of drain pipes to manage the large amounts of condensate they produce, while residential units have a simpler system that drains near the indoor unit. The maintenance and repair of these complex systems require specialized training and tools that go beyond standard residential service.
Finally, the impact of a failure is drastically different. If a home AC breaks down, it is an issue of comfort and inconvenience. If a commercial HVAC system fails, it can shut down a business, leading to lost revenue, decreased productivity, and potential damage to sensitive inventory or equipment. Because of these high stakes, commercial HVAC service requires a contractor who understands the urgency and has the resources to provide rapid and effective solutions. Vortex Air HVAC has the dedicated commercial expertise that businesses in Orem need. We understand the critical nature of your equipment.
A packaged rooftop unit, commonly known as an RTU, is the most prevalent type of HVAC system used for single and low-rise commercial buildings like retail stores, restaurants, and small office buildings. It is an all-in-one, self-contained system where all the necessary heating and cooling components are “packaged” together in one large metal cabinet. This cabinet includes the compressor, condenser coils, evaporator coils, fans, and often a gas furnace or electric heating strips. The entire unit is installed on the roof of the building, which is why it is called a rooftop unit.
The design of an RTU offers several advantages for commercial applications. Placing the unit on the roof frees up valuable ground space around the building, which can be used for parking or landscaping. It also keeps the noise from the powerful compressor and fans away from the building’s occupants and customers. Furthermore, the self-contained design makes maintenance and repairs more efficient, as technicians can access all major components in one location without needing to enter the business space and disrupt operations. This modular design also makes replacing an old unit with a new one a relatively straightforward process.
RTUs connect directly to the building’s ductwork system through supply and return air openings in the roof. They are designed to be durable and weather-resistant to withstand years of exposure to sun, rain, and snow. These units come in a wide range of sizes and configurations to meet the specific needs of different buildings. Servicing these large, complex units requires specialized knowledge, tools, and safety equipment, which is why you should always trust a qualified commercial HVAC contractor like Vortex Air HVAC for any work on your rooftop units.
For most commercial HVAC systems, professional service should be performed on a quarterly basis, or four times per year. This is more frequent than residential systems due to the much heavier workload and greater complexity of commercial equipment. A quarterly maintenance schedule allows technicians to inspect, clean, and tune the system in preparation for each season. For example, a visit in the spring can prepare the cooling components for summer, while a visit in the fall can ensure the heating system is ready for winter. The other two visits provide important mid-season checkups.
This frequency is crucial for preventing unexpected and costly breakdowns. Commercial systems run for many more hours per day than residential units, leading to faster wear and tear on components like belts, motors, and contactors. Quarterly inspections allow technicians to identify and replace these wearing parts before they fail, which could cause a shutdown of your business. Regular filter changes, which are part of every maintenance visit, are also critical for maintaining proper airflow and indoor air quality in a commercial setting. Dirty filters can significantly increase energy consumption and strain the system.
Some specialized facilities, such as restaurants with heavy grease-laden air or manufacturing plants with airborne particulates, may require even more frequent service. Vortex Air HVAC can work with you to create a customized maintenance plan tailored to your specific equipment and business needs. A proactive maintenance agreement is one of the smartest investments a business owner can make. It protects your HVAC assets, controls energy costs, ensures a comfortable environment, and provides peace of mind that your system is reliable.
Proper ventilation is a cornerstone of a healthy and safe indoor environment for any business. Ventilation is the process of bringing fresh outdoor air into a building while exhausting stale, polluted indoor air. This process is critical for diluting and removing indoor air pollutants, such as carbon dioxide (CO2) from occupants’ breathing, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from building materials and cleaning products, and airborne pathogens like viruses and bacteria. Without adequate ventilation, these pollutants can build up to unhealthy levels, negatively impacting the health of employees and customers.
For businesses, the benefits of good ventilation are tangible. Improved indoor air quality has been directly linked to better employee health and a reduction in sick days. It also enhances cognitive function, leading to increased productivity, better focus, and fewer errors. For customer-facing businesses like retail stores and restaurants, a fresh, clean-smelling environment free from stuffiness is crucial for creating a positive customer experience. In today’s health-conscious world, providing a well-ventilated space shows a commitment to the well-being of everyone who enters your establishment.
Commercial building codes have specific, and often strict, requirements for ventilation rates based on the size and occupancy of the space. These standards are designed to ensure a minimum level of health and safety. Our technicians at Vortex Air HVAC are knowledgeable about these codes and can ensure your system is compliant. We can also recommend and install systems like Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERVs), which bring in fresh air while recovering energy from the exhaust air, helping to manage your utility costs. Investing in proper ventilation is not just a compliance issue; it is an investment in the health of your people and your business.
A commercial HVAC maintenance agreement is a formal contract between your business and an HVAC contractor, like Vortex Air HVAC, for regularly scheduled preventative maintenance on your heating, cooling, and ventilation equipment. Instead of calling for service on an as-needed basis, the agreement establishes a proactive schedule of tune-ups and inspections throughout the year, typically on a quarterly basis. This ensures your system receives consistent, professional care to keep it running at its best. The agreement details the specific services that will be performed during each visit and the total cost for the year.
The benefits of having a maintenance agreement are significant for any business. First, it provides budget predictability. You know the exact cost of your maintenance for the year, which makes financial planning easier and avoids the surprise of a large, unexpected repair bill. Most agreements also provide additional financial perks, such as priority service in the event of a breakdown, discounted labor rates for any needed repairs, and no overtime charges. This can save you a substantial amount of money over the life of your equipment.
Most importantly, a maintenance agreement is about peace of mind and protecting your operations. Regular, professional service drastically reduces the likelihood of a system failure that could shut down your business. It ensures your equipment is running as efficiently as possible, saving you money on energy bills every month. It also extends the lifespan of your valuable HVAC assets, delaying the need for a costly replacement. A commercial maintenance agreement with Vortex Air HVAC is a strategic partnership designed to keep your facility comfortable, efficient, and operational.
Yes, helping your business reduce its energy costs is one of our primary goals. HVAC systems are one of the largest consumers of energy in a commercial building, often accounting for 40% or more of a facility’s total utility expenses. Therefore, optimizing your HVAC system’s efficiency offers a significant opportunity for cost savings. Our team at Vortex Air HVAC can perform a thorough energy assessment of your current system to identify areas of waste and opportunities for improvement. We look at the age and efficiency of your equipment, the condition of your ductwork, and your current control strategies.
One of the most effective ways to reduce costs is by upgrading to new, high-efficiency equipment. Modern commercial HVAC units have much higher efficiency ratings (IEER for cooling, AFUE for heating) than units from 10 or 15 years ago. While a new unit is a significant investment, the monthly energy savings can often provide a rapid return on that investment. We can provide you with detailed projections of potential savings to help you make an informed decision. We can also identify available rebates or tax incentives for installing high-efficiency equipment.
Beyond full system replacement, there are many other strategies we can implement. This includes retrofitting existing units with variable frequency drives (VFDs) on motors, installing smart thermostats or advanced building automation systems for better control, and performing comprehensive duct sealing to eliminate leaks. Regular preventative maintenance is also crucial, as a clean and well-tuned system can be up to 20% more efficient than a neglected one. We can partner with you to develop a comprehensive energy-saving strategy that lowers your operating costs and improves your bottom line.
